What you need before you start
- NISS of the applicant and the child
- Applicant's Cartão de Cidadão (Citizen Card)
- Child's birth certificate (Certidão de nascimento)
- Household income certificates
- NIB/IBAN for payment
Step by step
Go to Segurança Social Direta at www.seg-social.pt
Sign in with your access credentials
Select 'Família e Comunidade' (Family and Community) from the menu
Click 'Abono de Família' then 'Novo Pedido' (New Request)
Fill in the child's details and household information
Enter the household's annual income
Submit the request — usual response time is 30 business days
You can track the application under 'Consultar Pedidos' (Check Requests)
