Portal das Finanças (Tax Authority Portal)
Submit your IRS tax return, check tax debts, pay taxes and access your tax status through the official Tax Authority portal.
What you need before you start
- NIF (Tax Identification Number / Número de Identificação Fiscal)
- Portal das Finanças access password
- Or Chave Móvel Digital (CMD / Digital Mobile Key)
- Or Cartão de Cidadão (Citizen Card) with card reader
Step by step
Go to www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt
Click 'Autenticar' (Sign in) in the top right corner
Enter your NIF and access password (or use CMD)
In the main menu, select the desired area (e.g. 'Cidadãos' / Citizens)
For IRS tax return: click 'IRS' then 'Entregar Declaração' (Submit Return)
Review the pre-filled data or make any necessary corrections
Submit the return and save the confirmation receipt
