Alteração de Morada (Address Change)
Update the address on your Citizen Card when you move. The change is mandatory within 60 days and automatically updates your address with Tax Authority and Social Security.
What you need before you start
- Valid Cartão de Cidadão (Citizen Card)
- Chave Móvel Digital (for online change)
- Full new address (including postal code)
- Confirmation code sent by letter to the new address
Step by step
Go to eportugal.gov.pt and search for 'Alterar morada do Cartão de Cidadão' (Change Citizen Card address)
Authenticate with CMD
Enter the full new address including the postal code
Confirm the details and submit the request
You will receive a letter at the new address with a confirmation code (5–10 business days)
Go back to the portal and enter the code to confirm the change
The address is updated on the Citizen Card, Tax Authority and Social Security automatically
In person: you can update at an Espaço Cidadão or Registry Office with proof of address
