Documento Único Automóvel – DUA (Single Vehicle Document)
Apply for or renew the Documento Único Automóvel (DUA), which replaces the old registration book and ownership title. Required for registration, transfer and vehicle circulation.
What you need before you start
- Cartão de Cidadão (Citizen Card) or Chave Móvel Digital
- NIF (Tax Identification Number)
- Vehicle registration plate (Matrícula)
- Previous DUA (if requesting duplicate or transfer)
- Declaration of sale (if transferring ownership)
Step by step
Go to the IMT portal at www.imt-ip.pt or ePortugal
Search for 'Documento Único Automóvel'
For a duplicate: authenticate and select 'Pedir 2.ª via do DUA' (Request DUA duplicate)
For a transfer: both parties must sign the request online or in person
Fill in the form with the vehicle and owner details
Pay the corresponding fee by ATM or card
The DUA is sent to the registered address within 10–15 business days
To update the address on the DUA: this can be done online for free
