What you need before you start
- Cartão de Cidadão (Citizen Card) or Chave Móvel Digital
- NIF (Tax Identification Number)
- Specific documents depending on the service
Step by step
Go to www.irn.mj.pt and identify the service you need
For online certificates: go to the 'Serviços Online' (Online Services) area
Authenticate with CMD or Cartão de Cidadão
Select the type of certificate (birth, marriage, death, etc.)
Enter the details of the person concerned
Pay the fee (if applicable) by ATM or card
Download the certificate as PDF or wait for postal delivery
