Subsídio Parental (Parental Benefit)
Apply for parental benefit (maternity/paternity leave) through Social Security. Financial support during leave after the birth of a child.
What you need before you start
- NISS of the father and/or mother
- Child's birth certificate (Certidão de nascimento)
- Minimum 6 months of Social Security contributions
- Employer declaration (form RP5049-DGSS)
- IBAN for payment
Step by step
Go to Segurança Social Direta at www.seg-social.pt
Sign in with CMD or NIF + password
Select 'Família e Comunidade' → 'Parentalidade' (Parenting)
Choose the type of leave (initial, shared, father-exclusive, etc.)
Fill in the form with the parents' and child's details
Attach the birth certificate and employer declaration
Submit the request within 6 months of the birth
Track the request status under 'Consultar Pedidos' (Check Requests)
