Subsídio Parental (Parental Benefit)

Apply for parental benefit (maternity/paternity leave) through Social Security. Financial support during leave after the birth of a child.

What you need before you start

  • NISS of the father and/or mother
  • Child's birth certificate (Certidão de nascimento)
  • Minimum 6 months of Social Security contributions
  • Employer declaration (form RP5049-DGSS)
  • IBAN for payment

Step by step

  1. Go to Segurança Social Direta at www.seg-social.pt

  2. Sign in with CMD or NIF + password

  3. Select 'Família e Comunidade' → 'Parentalidade' (Parenting)

  4. Choose the type of leave (initial, shared, father-exclusive, etc.)

  5. Fill in the form with the parents' and child's details

  6. Attach the birth certificate and employer declaration

  7. Submit the request within 6 months of the birth

  8. Track the request status under 'Consultar Pedidos' (Check Requests)
